Saturnia

Saturnia is one of Tuscany’s most famous thermal destinations, located in the Maremma area of Grosseto, just a few kilometres from Pitigliano. Its sulphurous waters emerge naturally at around 37 °C and have been renowned since Etruscan and Roman times for their beneficial effects on skin, respiratory system, and circulation.

The symbol of Saturnia is the Cascate del Mulino (Mill Waterfalls): a series of natural white travertine pools carved over the centuries by the Gorello stream, where thermal water flows creating small cascades and natural basins. Access to the Cascate del Mulino is free, open 24 hours a day, all year round; there are no ticket offices or fixed opening hours. Nearby you will also find the Terme di Saturnia, a paid thermal complex with swimming pool, spa, and additional services.

The small, charming village of Saturnia is worth a visit for its peaceful atmosphere, historic churches, and views over the Maremma countryside. The area is ideal for combining a thermal bath with walks in nature, tastings of local products, and visits to nearby villages such as Pitigliano, Sorano, and Sovana.

For guests staying at Casetta di Pitigliano, Saturnia makes a perfect half-day or full-day trip, easily reachable by car. It is advisable to arrive early in the morning or in the late afternoon, especially on weekends and in high season, to enjoy the pools in greater tranquillity.
